The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has revoked the temporary membership of advocate Rakesh Kishore and prohibited his entry into the Supreme Court premises, following his attempt to hurl a shoe at Chief Justice B R Gavai during court proceedings on October 6.
In a resolution, the Executive Committee of the SCBA said Kishore’s conduct “amounted to a direct assault on judicial independence, the sanctity of courtroom proceedings, and the long-standing relationship of mutual respect and trust between the Bar and the Bench”.

The Committee said that given the “gravity of such misconduct, … continuation of Rakesh Kishore as a temporary member of the SCBA would be wholly inconsistent with the dignity and discipline expected of the members of this Association.”
Stopping the entry of Rakesh Kishore in the Supreme Court premises, the SCBA has said that a communication be sent to the Secretary- General, Supreme Court of India, requesting that the proximity access card issued to him be cancelled immediately.
It said Kishore’s “reprehensible, disorderly, and intemperate behaviour” amounted to “a direct assault on judicial independence” and a serious breach of professional ethics and decorum and an affront to the mutual respect between the Bar and the Bench.
The decision follows the October 6 incident, when Kishore, dressed in an advocate’s robes, allegedly attempted to throw his shoe at the CJI but was restrained by security personnel. As he was being escorted out, he was heard shouting, “Sanatan ka apmaan nahi sahega Hindustan.”
The Bar Council of India has already suspended Kishore’s licence to practise law under the Advocates Act, 1961, pending disciplinary proceedings for professional misconduct.
