Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee President Ajay Rai launched a scathing attack on Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo and former Chief Minister Mayawati, accusing her of consistently betraying the Dalit community for her political gains.

He alleged that the BSP’s rally in Lucknow today was funded by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with the sole motive of dividing Dalit votes ahead of the Bihar elections.

Rai claimed that Mayawati has always misled Dalits and has now aligned herself with the BJP to weaken opposition unity. “Mayawati is only a fake leader of Dalits. She has never truly stood for their rights. In fact, she is anti-Dalit and anti-Muslim,” he said.

Emphasizing the Congress party’s long-standing commitment to upholding the Constitution, he said, “It is the Congress, especially our leader Rahul Gandhi, who has always raised his voice for the protection of the Constitution, both inside and outside Parliament. No other party has done as much for constitutional values.”

Referring to a recent incident in Uttar Pradesh where a Dalit youth was allegedly beaten to death by individuals associated with the ruling BJP in Rae Bareli, Rai questioned Mayawati’s silence. “A Dalit boy was mercilessly beaten for hours by supporters of Yogi Adityanath. He died as a result. Yet Mayawati is praising this government. She should be ashamed,” he said.

Rai further claimed that the crowd at Mayawati’s rally was artificially mobilized with government support and BJP funding. “This rally was not for Uttar Pradesh, but strategically aimed at influencing voters in Bihar. It is a part of BJP’s plan to split Dalit votes in the state, where they fear the growing support for the Congress-led alliance,” he added.

The UP Congress chief also said that both Dalit and Muslim communities have lost faith in Mayawati. “The way she has acted on BJP’s instructions makes it clear she is working in collusion with them. But the Dalit community now stands firmly with the Congress and Rahul Gandhi.”
