Under the ‘Breath of Change – Clean Air, Blue Skies’ campaign, the Environment Ministry on Wednesday inaugurated an educational tool — ‘Breathable Art’ — at Swarn Jayanti Park in Rohini, Delhi.

The initiative, aimed at raising environmental awareness, is a collaborative effort of the Environment Ministry, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), and the Delhi Development Authority (DDA).

‘Breathable Art’ is an innovative living structure, created using air-purifying plants and sustainable materials, which serves as an interactive public engagement installation to raise awareness about air pollution and promote sustainable urban living.

Through QR-code–enabled educational content, visitors can learn about the plants’ physiological features and their role in purifying the air, according to the Ministry’s official statement.

The installation features air-purifying plants including Areca palm, bamboo palm, money plant, snake plant, spider plant, parijat, peace lily, arrowhead, weeping fig, and zigzag plant.

The Ministry noted that these plants, owing to their ability to remove formaldehyde and benzene — common outdoor pollutants from vehicular emissions — will be particularly beneficial during the dry winter months when respiratory discomfort is common.

The artwork is also positioned as a natural, passive solution to combat the persistent air quality challenges of the national capital, while simultaneously enhancing urban green spaces.

With the launch of this installation, the Ministry aims to increase environmental awareness, encourage wider adoption of eco-friendly lifestyles, and transform urban spaces through nature-based solutions.

“Breathable Art embodies the vision of a greener, more breathable Delhi, where art and nature coexist to remind every citizen that sustainability begins with a single breath,” the official statement read.
