Heavy rain and gusty winds lashed several parts of Delhi and adjoining regions on Tuesday evening, leading to traffic snarls and a dip in temperature.

Intermittent showers began early in the morning and continued through the day. After a brief lull in the afternoon, dark clouds once again enveloped the city, followed by a spell of heavy rain accompanied by strong winds in many areas, including central and south Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad.

Under the influence of western disturbance, Safdarjung, the capital’s base weather station, recorded 5.8 mm rainfall between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm on Tuesday, categorized as ‘light.’ While the other stations at Palam, Ridge, Pusa, and Mayur Vihar received 41.6 mm, 37 mm, 22.5 mm, and 20 mm, respectively — all falling under the ‘moderate’ rainfall category between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the IMD said.

The IMD classifies rainfall as “light” when it is up to 15.5 mm, “moderate” when the rainfall is between 15.5 and 64.4 mm in a 24-hour window.

The maximum temperature on Tuesday at the city’s base station was 29.8°C, 4.4°C below the normal, while the minimum settled at 21°C, 1.3°C below normal.

For Wednesday, the IMD has forecast overcast skies for the capital, with no prediction of further rain and clear skies thereafter.
