“It is highly shocking and deplorable that a shoe was thrown at CJI Gavai in an open courtroom, accompanied by slogans shouted in support of Sanatan Dharma. The recent statements of BJP chief ministers, ministers, and leaders promoting casteist, Manuvadi, and communal ideas have emboldened such acts,” the CPI(M) said.

“This incident is yet another example of the Manuvadi and communal venom injected into society by Hindutva forces. It also reflects the Sangh Parivar’s intolerance and unwillingness to accept any opinion that does not align with their ideology,” the party added.
Demanding immediate action against the advocate involved in the attack, the CPI(M) also called for adequate protection for CJI Gavai to ensure his safety.
The party further urged the government to act firmly against individuals and organizations spreading intolerance, while safeguarding freedom of expression and the right to dissent.
The attack on CJI Gavai has sparked widespread condemnation, with many leaders and citizens expressing outrage over the incident.
