Congress leader Jairam Ramesh Wednesday, criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for welcoming President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan for Gaza, questioning the plan’s legitimacy and morality. “To appease his good friend President Trump and in solidarity with his other good friend Bibi Netanyahu, Prime Minister Modi has welcomed President Trump’s new 20-point plan for Gaza. But fundamental and disturbing questions on the plan remain,” Ramesh said in a post on X.
Ramesh raised several concerns about the plan, including the absence of Gaza’s people in the proposed governance system, the lack of a roadmap for a Palestinian state, and the ignoring of Palestinian statehood by the US and Israel. “Where are the people of Gaza themselves in the system of governance proposed? Where is the roadmap for a full-fledged Palestinian state to come into being?” he asked.

Ramesh also criticised PM Modi for maintaining silence on the atrocities in Gaza, calling it “extreme moral cowardice and a total betrayal of all that India has stood for.” He emphasised India’s historical support for Palestinian statehood, recognised by 157 UN member countries since November 1988.
