Rahul Gandhi condemns murder of Uttarakhand journalist Rajiv Pratap, demands impartial probe

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi Tuesday strongly condemned the murder of Uttarakhand journalist Rajiv Pratap, demanding an immediate, impartial, and transparent investigation into the incident. He expressed his condolences to the bereaved family and emphasized that honest journalism is facing a threat under the current regime.

“The disappearance of Uttarakhand’s young journalist Rajiv Pratap ji and his subsequent discovery of the deceased is not merely tragic, but horrifying,” Gandhi said in a post on X. “In this difficult time, I extend my condolences to the grieving family and stand with them,” he added.

Gandhi highlighted the challenges faced by journalists who speak truth to power, saying, “Under BJP rule today, honest journalism is living under the shadow of fear and insecurity. Those who write the truth, raise their voice for the public, and question the government are being sought to be silenced through threats and violence.”

The Congress leader pointed to a possible conspiracy behind Rajiv Pratap’s murder, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation. “The entire sequence of events that happened with Rajiv ji points towards such a conspiracy. There should be an immediate impartial and transparent investigation into Rajiv ji’s death, and the victim’s family should receive justice without delay,” he demanded.

Rajiv Pratap, a young journalist, went missing and was later found dead. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and concern about the safety of journalists in the state. The demand for an impartial investigation into the murder highlights the need for accountability and justice for the victim and his family.

However, the Uttarakhand Police have not found any foul play in the death of Rajiv Pratap. According to the police, the postmortem report confirmed internal injuries due to the accident as the cause of his death.
