The wait is finally over for fans of Springfield’s most famous family. The makers of ‘The Simpsons Movie’ have confirmed that a brand-new movie is in the works, with a theatrical release date set for July 23, 2027.
The big announcement came from 20th Century Studios, which shared the news on Instagram early Tuesday. “Woohoo! The Simpsons are coming to theatres with an all-new movie on July 23, 2027!” the studio wrote.

Interestingly, this sequel will be filling a gap left by Disney’s Marvel lineup. Variety reports that the film has taken the spot of an untitled Marvel project that has now been removed from Disney’s 20th Century production schedule.

This means there won’t be a Marvel release between ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ (December 18, 2026) and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ (December 17, 2027).
For the Simpsons, though, this is a major moment. The show, created by Matt Groening, is the longest-running animated series and sitcom in television history. First airing in 1989, it has been renewed through its 40th season, which will run in 2028 and 2029.
Over the years, Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and little Maggie have become global icons, and their stories in the town of Springfield continue to attract viewers across generations.

The first ‘Simpsons Movie’ hit theatres in July 2007 and was a massive hit worldwide. Directed by David Silverman, it followed the hilarious yet chaotic events after Homer polluted Springfield’s lake, leading the government to seal the town inside a giant glass dome.
Made on a budget of $75 million, the film grossed more than $536 million at the global box office.
Talks of a sequel have floated around ever since, but nothing official had been confirmed, until now. After nearly two decades, fans will finally get a chance to see another feature-length adventure with the beloved yellow family.
Matt Selman, the current showrunner, has previously mentioned how streaming platforms helped ‘The Simpsons’ stay popular and reach new audiences.
For now, fans can circle July 23, 2027, on their calendars. Get ready to say, just like Homer would: “Woohoo!”
