The stock market on Monday failed to build on opening gains and ended lower for the seventh consecutive session. The Nifty closed near the 24,650 mark, reflecting cautious investor sentiment.
At the close, the BSE Sensex fell 61.52 points, or 0.08%, to 80,364.94, while the NSE Nifty dipped 19.80 points, or 0.08%, to 24,634.90.

The BSE Midcap index rose 0.3%, while smallcap index saw a marginal decline.
Among the sectors, Nifty PSU Bank ended with a stellar gain of 1.78%, followed by Nifty Oil and Gas, which rose 1.35%. Nifty Realty gained 0.88% while the Nifty Bank index climbed 0.13%.
On the Nifty50, the top gainers were IndusInd Bank up by 3.07%, Titan Company up by 2.70%, and Hindalco Industries up by 1.65%. Conversely, Maruti Suzuki India fell 1.76%, Axis Bank dropped 1.73%, and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories shed 1.13%, leading the losses.
Out of 4,377 stocks traded on the BSE, 1,919 advanced, while 2,275 declined while some 183 stocks remained unchanged.
Around 146 stocks hit their 52-week highs while 166 stocks touched 52-week lows.
Those on highs included Indian Bank, Minda Corporation Ltd, RBL Bank Ltd, Supreme Petrochem Ltd, Tata Investment Corporation Ltd, and Usha Martin Ltd. In contrast, notable names on lows were Five-Star Business Finance Ltd, Vedant Fashions Ltd, Praj Industries Ltd, and Ramkrishna Forgings Ltd.
Some of the key performers were Sammaan Capital gaining more than 11%, SEPC shares added 1%, Wheels India shares rose 4%, Reliance Power added 1%. Waaree Energies shares also gained 2%, Interarch Building Solutions shares fell 2%, Vascon Engineers jumped 11%, Chambal Fertilisers & Chemicals shed 2%.
Looking ahead, market participants will be keenly watching the RBI MPC meeting.
