“India is proud to be hosting the World Para Athletics Championships 2025 in Delhi, which commences today. A warm welcome and best wishes to all participants. This tournament celebrates human determination and spirit. May this tournament inspire a more inclusive and vibrant sporting culture across the world,” PM Modi said.
The World Para Athletics Championships 2025 is being hosted at Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium with over 1,000 athletes scheduled to participate.
The Championships, which will take place from 27 September to 5 October, will be the 12th edition of the World Para Athletics Championships and the largest Para sport event ever held in India.
The competition programme will feature 186 medal events (101 men’s, 84 women’s and one mixed), 15 more than at the last edition of the championships in Kobe.
Asia has previously hosted the World Championships in four occasions, at Doha 2015 in Qatar, Dubai 2019 in the United Arab Emirates and Kobe 2024 in Japan.
The World Para Athletics Championships is a premier international event for athletes with physical impairments, showcasing their exceptional talent and dedication. By hosting this tournament, India aims to promote inclusivity and inspire a more vibrant sporting culture globally.
The event is expected to bring together athletes from around the world, providing a platform for them to demonstrate their skills and compete at the highest level. PM Modi’s message highlights India’s commitment to promoting sports and inclusivity, and the country’s enthusiasm for hosting major international events.
