Diljit clarified the timeline of events that had sparked criticism and rumors. He explained that ‘Sardaarji 3’ was shot in February, well before the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which tragically claimed 26 lives, mostly of tourists.

The India-Pakistan Asia Cup match, which followed later, happened after the attack. “After that tragic Pahalgam attack happened, we have always prayed that the terrorists should receive strict punishment. The difference is that my film was shot before the attack. And the match was played after it,” he said.

Diljit also addressed the controversy around his decision to cast Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in ‘Sardaarji 3’, amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan. “The national media tried their best to portray me as anti-national. But the Sikh community could never go against the nation,” he said.

“I have many answers, but I kept quiet, kept everything inside me. I didn’t speak.” He added that there was a lot more he could say but chose not to indulge in negativity.

‘Sardaarji 3’, which also stars Neeru Bajwa, Gulshan Grover, and Sapna Pabbi, was directed by Amar Hundal and released overseas on June 27.

The background to these controversies lies in the strained India-Pakistan relationship. This intensified after the Pahalgam terror attack. Following the incident, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7. In the aftermath, there were bans on social media accounts of several Pakistani artists, including Diljit’s co-star Hania Aamir.

Another such high-pressure event was the India-Pakistan match in the Asia Cup. The game carried enormous emotional weight, after all, it was the first face-off between the two nations since the Pahalgam attack.
