Veteran actor Raza Murad took a moment on Tuesday to honor the memory of his late father, Hamid Ali Murad, on what would have been the legendary actor’s 114th birthday.
Known for his powerful presence on screen, Murad left a mark on Indian cinema from the 1940s to the late 1980s.

Raza Murad shared a tribute on Instagram, posting a collage of himself with his father along with a heartfelt note remembering his influence and legacy.
“Today is the 114th birthday anniversary of my late father, Mr. Murad \[24.09.1911],” he wrote. “He was a renowned character actor from the early forties till the late eighties. I followed in his footsteps, as he was instrumental in getting me admitted to FTII, Pune, in 1969. He taught me discipline, punctuality, and professionalism.”
Raza continued, “His innings as an actor was remarkable. He was very fluent in Urdu and Persian, and a generous soul who would always help friends in need without ever asking for repayment. He breathed his last on 24.04.1987. God bless his noble departed soul. Aameen.”
Hamid Ali Murad’s career spanned more than four decades, during which he appeared in over 200 Hindi films. He became famous for his ability to bring depth to a wide variety of characters, including fathers, judges, police officers, and emperors.
Murad started his career with Mehboob Khan’s ‘Najma’ and soon became a regular in the director’s films, contributing to classics like ‘Anmol Ghadi’, ‘Andaz’, ‘Aan’, and ‘Amar’. He also left audiences mesmerized with standout performances in iconic films such as ‘Do Bigha Zamin’, where he played a ruthless landowner, ‘Devdas’ as the protagonist’s father, and ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ as Raja Maan Singh.
Murad even ventured into international cinema, appearing as a maharajah in the Hollywood production ‘Tarzan Goes to India’.
