According to a statement, the police started receiving calls around 6:10 am on Tuesday at the Jahangirpuri police station, reporting that several people had fallen ill after consuming food made with Kuttu atta (buckwheat flour).
“Teams were sent to BJRM Hospital, where the chief medical officer reported that between 150 and 200 people had visited the emergency ward since morning,” a senior police official said.
So far, it has been suspected that the victims were suffering from food poisoning in the locality, which eventually triggered anxiety amongst the natives, especially as the majority of people were observing fasting on the occasion of Navratri.
In order to prevent further panic in the localities, the team of officers promptly engaged the beat staff and used public address systems to alert shopkeepers, vendors, and residents about the situation.
“The matter has been communicated to the Food Department for further necessary action, including a quality check of Kuttu atta being sold in local markets,” another officer said.
The officer stated that they were working in coordination with the Food Department and local health authorities while also spreading awareness at the community level to safeguard the public.
