CPI-M General Secretary refutes claim of Kerala CM’s devotion

CPI-M General Secretary MA Baby on Monday openly rejected SNDP Yogam General Secretary Vellappally Natesan’s claim that Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is a devotee.

Speaking to the media, Baby said he personally knows how Pinarayi Vijayan upholds communist values in his thinking and beliefs.

He added that Vellappally Natesan’s statement about the Chief Minister should be regarded as a personal opinion and observation of the SNDP Yogam general secretary.

On Saturday, Vellappally Natesan had stated that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is a devotee and would continue to be the Chief Minister in the future as well.

Speaking to reporters after the inaugural ceremony of the Global Ayyappa Sangamam at Pampa, Vellappally said that although communists profess atheism, the majority of them, including the Chief Minister, are devotees.

“Although all these people profess atheism for the sake of ideals, 90 percent of those who come to worship Ayyappan are communists,” Vellappally said.

He further added, “Pinarayi Vijayan himself has visited Sabarimala twice, and if he were not a devotee, would he be able to come here? All of them have devotion in their hearts.”
