‘Will you apologise’: BJP welcomes SEBI clean chit to Adani, slams Opposition over Hindenburg row

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday welcomed the Securities and Exchange Board of India’s (SEBI) clean chit to the Adani Group in the Hindenburg matter, calling it a vindication of truth and a setback for the Opposition.

BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said the findings confirmed that “economic anarchists and economic terrorists working against India’s interests” had been exposed.

“Once again, truth has prevailed, and those behaving like economic anarchists, economic terrorists and economic sleeper cells working full time against the country’s interests have been dealt a body blow,” Poonawalla told ANI.

He accused the Congress and Rahul Gandhi of using the Hindenburg report to create “economic anarchy”in the country and demanded to know if the Opposition would now apologise.

“Those in India who considered Hindenburg a gospel stalled Parliament, hurt the economy and misled investors. Were they hand in glove in creating losses and profiting out of it? They must be held accountable,” he said.

Poonawalla recalled that the Supreme Court too had previously dismissed the allegations and found no substance in Hindenburg’s claims.

“This fly-by-night operator called Hindenburg has already shut its shop. There has been a triple strike on its allegations — by SEBI, by the Supreme Court, and by its own closure,” he added.

The market regulator on Thursday dismissed the allegations made by the US Short seller Hindenburg against the Adani Group. SEBI concluded that there is no violation of the listing agreement or SEBI Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements (LODR), and the impugned transactions do not qualify as “related party transactions”.
