The Chief Minister has said on Tuesday that the teachers of the state are experienced and they have been provided training by the government from time to time. In such a situation, it is not appropriate to ignore their qualifications and years of service.

It is worth noting that the recent decision of the Supreme Court has increased the concern of lakhs of teachers of the state. According to the order, it will be mandatory for teachers teaching from class one to eight to pass the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) to remain in service and get promotion.

If sources in the education department are to be believed, the government has taken this decision after an important meeting held at the government level. In this, other possible options will be considered including filing a review petition in the Supreme Court as well as seeing the stance of other states.

Meanwhile, teacher organizations had already demanded that teachers appointed before July 29,2011 were exempted under the Right to Education (RTE) Act. The state government should present their side in the Supreme Court and if needed, amend the rules or the Act, so that the teachers already working can get relief.
