A Special POCSO Court in Odisha’s Bargarh district on Monday convicted a man of outraging the modesty of a minor girl four years ago and sentenced him to nine-year imprisonment.
The accused, Karun Bag, was awarded the sentence under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The Court pronounced the judgment after relying on the evidence of witnesses and the medico-legal report. It has also awarded a compensation of Rs 3 lakh to the victim under the Victim Compensation Scheme.

The case was investigated by Sushama Pasayat, Investigating Officer, and the prosecution was conducted by Dyutish Acharya, Additional Public Prosecutor, Bargarh police said in a statement.
The conviction highlights the commitment of the police and prosecution in ensuring justice for victims of crimes against children and women, it concluded.
