Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday virtually inaugurated a robotic surgery facility worth Rs 30 crore at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College (RPGMC), Tanda in Kangra district.

He was scheduled to inaugurate the facility in person, but his helicopter could not land due to adverse weather, prompting him to join the event from Chandigarh.

The chief minister said the state government was committed to strengthening healthcare by providing advanced medical services closer to people’s homes. Stating that a robotic surgery unit had already been commissioned at the Atal Institute of Medical Super Speciality, Chamiyana in Shimla, he assured that there would be no shortage of funds for the health sector.

He announced that a Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scan machine would soon be installed at Tanda Medical College to save patients from travelling outside the state.

Emergency departments across government medical colleges would also be upgraded.

Sukhu further announced an increase in B.Sc. Nursing seats at Tanda Medical College to 60. Robotic surgery facilities would also be introduced in Hamirpur, Chamba, Nerchowk and Nahan medical colleges in a phased manner.

To strengthen manpower, 150–200 paramedical staff will be deployed across medical colleges, 50 new posts of operation theatre radiographers will be created, and incentives will be provided to doctors delivering outstanding performance in their fields.
