The Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) has hailed the Narendra Modi-led NDA government at the Centre for its farmer-friendly approach in trade with the US and said that the American tariff war would not affect the interests of farmers in the country.

“The Modi government has not allowed the sale of US milk and agro-products in India. This farmer-friendly approach has protected our peasantry from the ill effects of the Indo-US tariff war,’ said Sai Reddy, President of the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS), a Sangh Parivar outfit, while speaking to the media at the Sangh’s state office here.”

However, Reddy expressed dissatisfaction over the effective implementation of the kisan crop insurance scheme, saying the farmer-friendly initiative by the government was turning into a deal favouring the insurance companies.

He was also unhappy with the Bhajan Lal Sharma-led BJP government’s commitment on the procurement of millet (Bajra) at the minimum support price(MSP). The kisan leader said, “The announcement to this effect has also proved to be a poll promise.”

“Let the state government immediately open the sale of bajra at the MSP,” Reddy added.

The milk subsidy of Rs 5 per litre has also not been released since December 2024, he said.

The Kisan Sangh Chief warned, “Farmers will launch an agitation if our problems are not looked into and resolved soon.”
