Actor James McAvoy had an unexpected and scary moment in Toronto earlier this week when a stranger suddenly attacked him at a local bar.
The 46-year-old star, loved for his work in films like ‘Atonement’ and the ‘X-Men’ series, is currently in the Canadian city for the premiere of his very first directorial project, ‘California Schemin’.

The incident took place on Monday night, just two days after James McAvoy showcased his film at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). He had attended the premiere on September 6 alongside his wife, Lisa Liberati.
Following the big moment, McAvoy was spending some down time with his film’s producers at Charlotte’s Room, a bar in the city. That’s when things took a surprising turn.
According to PEOPLE, a man who had been drinking too much was being removed from the bar by staff. As they were escorting him out, he suddenly struck McAvoy. A source close to the actor explained to the media, “James’ back was to him and the man just punched him.”
However, McAvoy did not lose his cool. Onlookers said the actor remained calm, while the bar’s staff and customers quickly jumped in to handle the situation.
And, McAvoy did not leave after the incident. Instead, he decided to stay, even laughing off the random assault. Reports say he continued talking with other guests and the bar’s staff as if nothing major had happened.
