The Allahabad High Court on Wednesday granted bail to jailed Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan in connection with the Dungarpur case of Rampur.

The Allahabad High Court on Wednesday granted bail to jailed Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan in connection with the Dungarpur case of Rampur.

The single bench of Justice Sameer Jain gave the verdict after reserving the judgment after arguments on August 12 last.

In a case related to the famous Dungarpur case of Rampur, Azam Khan had filed a criminal appeal in the High Court against the sentence of 10 years given by Rampur MP MLA Court.

In this case, contractor Barkat Ali has also filed a criminal appeal in Allahabad High Court against the sentence.

Both had asked the court to grant bail till the appeal in Allahabad High Court is pending.

In this case, contractor Barkat Ali also got bail from Allahabad High Court.

Hearing is going on in the High Court together on the criminal appeal of both.

On May 30, 2024, Rampur MP-MLA Court had sentenced Azam Khan to ten years. Azam Khan had challenged the sentence in Allahabad High Court.In this case, Barkat Ali Contractor was sentenced to 7 years

In the Dungarpur case, a person named Abrar had filed a case against three people including SP leader Azam Khan, retired CO Ale Hasan Khan and contractor Barkat Ali alias Fakir Mohammad in August 2019 at Thana Ganj in Rampur

According to the complainant Abrar, in December 2016, Azam Khan, retired CO Ale Hasan Khan and Barkat Ali.They were also alleged of vandalising his house and threatened to kill him. Along with this, his house was also demolished.

Three years later in 2019, Abrar filed a case at Thana Ganj.

In this case, the MP MLA Special Court had sentenced Azam Khan to 10 years and Barkat Ali Contractor to 7 years.

People living in Dungarpur Basti had filed 12 cases in the name of getting the colony vacated. Looting, theft, and assault cases were registered in Rampur’s Ganj police station under various sections.
