The Vice Presidential election is being closely watched, with the outcome expected to be announced later in the evening. While the NDA’s numerical advantage makes its candidate’s victory likely, the Opposition’s unity could impact the margin of victory.
Jairam Ramesh’s remarks also drew attention to the absence of former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, who resigned from his post on July 21, citing health issues, and has been incommunicado since.
The voting process began at 10 am, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi casting his vote first. A total of 766 out of 781 MPs cast their votes, while 14 abstained. The counting of votes is scheduled to take place at 6 pm, and the results will be announced later in the evening.
