The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has welcomed the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) decision to fully reinstate its partnership through the Olympic Solidarity Programmes.
“This milestone reflects the significant governance reforms and progress achieved within Indian sport in recent months,” the IOA said in a statement.

In a letter to IOA president P T Usha, the IOC commended the measures taken by the IOA and the central government to strengthen the sporting ecosystem and provide support to athletes at every level, from grassroots to elite.
The IOC pointed to two major developments as key reasons for resuming support: the appointment of Raghuram Iyer as IOA Chief Executive Officer and the Government of India’s adoption of the National Sports Governance Act, both described as pivotal in creating a stronger foundation for Indian sport.
With the Olympic Solidarity Programmes now reinstated, Indian athletes are expected to be the biggest beneficiaries. The renewed support will offer direct funding and development opportunities to aid training, preparation, and participation in the Olympic Games and other global competitions.
Calling the development a landmark moment for Indian sport, IOA chief Usha said, “This reflects our shared commitment from the IOA to the Government of India, under the new and transformative sports legislation, to uphold the highest standards of governance in sport. Together, we are shaping a strong and promising future for India’s athletes.”
“This renewed partnership with the IOC will play a vital role in helping our athletes realise their Olympic aspirations. We sincerely thank the IOC for its continued trust, support, and guidance,” added the legendary athlete.
The decision marks a reversal from the recent past, when infighting within the IOA and election delays led the IOC to suspend payments to the Indian body.
