Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman may be known worldwide for his soulful melodies, but when it comes to his personal time, he is just like any other movie buff.
In a recent conversation, the maestro revealed that he and his team often head to theatres to catch Marvel movies, enjoying the action, music, and popcorn like regular fans.

AR Rahman shared that every few months, around 20 to 30 members of his team join him for these outings. They usually sit at the back rows, laughing, eating, and soaking in the experience without any special treatment.
“Sometimes we all go for Marvel movies. 20-30 people in the theatre, and we sit at the back, enjoy popcorn. My whole team goes. Every 2-3 months, we go there,” Rahman recalled.
Interestingly, when asked about his favourite Marvel superhero, Rahman didn’t name Iron Man, Thor, or any other fan favourite. Instead, he said he doesn’t really choose one.
For him, the focus is more on the sound of the film than the characters. He likes to observe how the background score is created and how the sound design adds to the storytelling.
Of course, being a musical genius, Rahman admitted that it’s almost impossible for him to watch a film without paying attention to the technical side of things.
He explained that his mind naturally notices the placement of songs, the mixing of the background score. Everything musical!
But beyond the world of music and cinema, Rahman also opened up about his personal journey and how his outlook on life has changed. In the early years of his career, he often found himself buried in back-to-back projects, sometimes working on multiple films at once.
Now, after decades of relentless work, Rahman has made a conscious decision to slow down.
