Amidst the ongoing bitter tariff war between India and the US, a contingent of personnel from a battalion of the Madras Regiment landed at Fort Wainwright, Alaska, to participate in the 21st edition of ‘Yudh Abhyas 2025’, a joint military exercise between the two nations.

The exercise will culminate on September 14. In a post on X, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal wrote, “An Indian Army contingent has reached Fort Wainwright, Alaska, for the 21st edition of Yudh Abhyas 2025 (01–14 Sept).”

Earlier, in a statement issued here, the Ministry of Defence stated that the Indian contingent will participate in the exercise along with their American counterparts, hailing from the 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment – popularly known as the “Bobcats” of the Arctic Wolves Brigade, part of the US Army’s 11th Airborne Division.

Over two weeks, troops will rehearse a spectrum of tactical drills, including heliborne operations, employment of surveillance resources and unmanned aerial systems, rock craft, mountain warfare, casualty evacuation, combat medical aid, and the integrated use of Artillery, Aviation, and Electronic Warfare systems.

In addition, subject-matter experts from both armies will conduct working groups on critical domains, including UAS and Counter-UAS operations, information warfare, communications, and logistics.

The exercise will culminate in jointly planned and executed tactical manoeuvres, ranging from live-fire exercises to high-altitude warfare scenarios, with a focus on improving capabilities for United Nations peacekeeping operations and strengthening preparedness for multi-domain challenges.
