Annoyed by his wife’s obsession with creating reels for social media platforms, a resident of the Najafgarh area here allegedly strangled her to death before attempting to commit sucide, the Delhi Police said on Tuesday.
The accused, Aman, 35, an e-rickshaw driver who hailed from Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh, has been residing with his wife and two sons, aged nine and five, in a rented accommodation in Old Roshanpura, the police said.

A senior officer said, “After receiving the information about the incident through a PCR call at 4:23 am on Tuesday at the Najafgarh police station, a team was rushed to the spot.”

Initial investigation into the case revealed that Aman was dead against his wife’s activities on social media, especially making and uploading reels. They used to frequently lock in arguments over the matter.
According to the police, the victim was a social media artist with over 6,000 followers on her social media profile.
On the day of the incident, when a scuffle between the husband and wife over her indulgence escalated, Aman allegedly strangled her to death in a fit of rage. Subsequently, when the realisation of committing the crime dawned on him, he attempted suicide by hanging from the cealing and consuming poison. However, he was rescued by the police and rushed to the RTRM Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment under custody.
Meanwhile, the body has been preserved for autopsy while the police are recording the statement of the neighbour and the relative as part of the investigation.
The police have registered a case under the relevant sections while the investigation is underway.
