The stock market on Monday ended with healthy gains, snapping its three-session losing run on buying across segments.

At close, Sensex gained 555 points, or 0.70 per cent, at 80,364.49, while the Nifty 50 ended the day at 24,625.05, up 198 points, or 0.81 per cent. About 2681 shares advanced, 1,320 shares declined, and 173 shares were unchanged.

The BSE Midcap index jumped 1.64 per cent, while the Smallcap index rose 1.49 per cent. Overall market capitalisation of BSE-listed firms jumped to nearly Rs 449 lakh crore from below Rs 444 lakh crore in the previous session.

Among the sectors, barring Nifty Media, which was down 0.32 per cent, and Pharma, down by 0.12 per cent, all other major sectoral indices ended higher. Nifty Auto was up 2.80 per cent and Consumer Durables up 2.08 per cent.

Nifty Metal was up 1.64 per cent, IT up 1.59 per cent, Oil & Gas up by 1.35 per cent, PSU Bank up 1.11 per cent, and Realty up by 1.04per cent.

Nifty Bank rose by 0.65 per cent, while the Financial Services index climbed 0.69per cent.

On Nifty, around 42 stocks ended higher. The top gainers were the shares of Bajaj Auto was up 4.01per cent, Mahindra & Mahindra, up by 3.52per cent, and Hero MotoCorp, up 3.18 per cent.

Shares of Sun Pharma were down by 1.91per cent, ITC down 1.03 per cent, and Hindustan Unilever down 0.56 per cent.

EV two-wheeler maker Ola Electric surged sharply, rising more than 16per cent. Shares of Bajaj Auto Ltd climbed 4 per cent following a 5 per cent year-on-year rise in total sales for August.

Shares of Suzlon Energy rose around 3 per cent, extending gains for a second session.

Around 129 stocks hit their 52-week high, while 113 stocks touched 52-week lows.

On the highs included Authum Investment & Infrastructure Ltd, Craftsman Automation Ltd, CreditAccess Grameen Ltd, Dalmia Bharat Ltd, Eicher Motors Ltd, HBL Engineering Ltd, TVS Motor Company Ltd, and UNO Minda Ltd.

The notable mentions on lows were Deepak Nitrite Ltd, Five-Star Business Finance Ltd, United Breweries Ltd, Equitas Small Finance Bank Ltd, Route Mobile Ltd, and Marksans Pharma Ltd.
