The officer added in his statement that our team initiated an investigation and arrested Salman on the intervening night of August 22-23 while his accomplice is still at large. As part of a preliminary inquiry, the CCTV footage from the vicinity helped identify the accused and the scooter they were using.
DCP Gautam said that the vehicle was later found to be registered in the name of Ravish, who was a resident of Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad.
Subsequently, Salman, who hails from Muzaffarnagar, was held by the police from Sunder Nagri, and the scooter used in the crime was confiscated from his possession, they said.
During sustained interrogation of Salman, it came out that he resided in a rented accommodation in Sundar Nagri and earned a living by selling sarees and suits door-to-door.
According to the police, he has no previous criminal record.
Further investigation disclosed that Suhail, who is the elder brother of Ravish, has a criminal history, the officer said.
About three to four months ago, Salman befriended Suhail through Ravish and involved himself in burglary, they said.
Suhail never stayed at one place but frequently shifted between Sundar Nagri and Pasonda, Salman told police.
Raids were conducted at suspected hideouts of Suhail in Sundar Nagri, Pasonda, and Dasna, Ghaziabad; however, he remains at large, the police said, adding that efforts are on to trace him.
