Meanwhile, several workers of the Congress and the BJP clashed outside the Congress office in Patna. A dramatic video has surfaced on social media on Friday, showing the workers of the two parties hitting each other with sticks.

The controversy has already triggered sharp political reactions from across the nation.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is on a two-day visit to Guwahati, while addressing the inauguration event of the Brahmaputra Wing of Raj Bhavan today, said, “Congress leaders have committed the most condemnable act by using derogatory words against PM Modi’s mother during their Ghuspaithiya Bachao Yatra.”

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar strongly condemned the indecent remarks made against PM Modi and his late mother, Heeraben Modi, during the Voter Adhikar Yatra in Darbhanga.

In a post, CM Nitish Kumar wrote, “The kind of indecent language used against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother from the platform of Congress and RJD during the Voter Rights Yatra in Darbhanga is extremely indecent and I condemn it.”

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also criticised the Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). Speaking to media persons, CM Gupta said, “This behaviour of the opposition leaders is very shameful. Insulting any of our mothers on the land of Sita Ma is not tolerable. The people of the country reject such cheap thinking and cheap politics of speaking ill of the mother of the Prime Minister of the country.”

Meanwhile, members from the Congress party have also reacted to the viral video, accusing the BJP of a conspiracy.

Congress leader Pawan Khera, speaking to the media, Friday said, “This remark has been made by their (BJP’s) own agent. They just want to create an issue so that they can divert attention from our yatra. Their theft has been caught, so these people are frustrated.”

Congress leader Digvijay Singh commenting on the incident said, “An investigation should be conducted into who made this statement or whose statement it is. No person from the Congress would want derogatory words to be spoken against the Prime Minister or his family. This is not the culture of the Congress.”
