Prime Minister Narendra Modi Thursday extended his best wishes to the participating teams, players, officials, and supporters of the Men’s Hockey Asia Cup 2025, which kicks off on August 29 in Rajgir, Bihar. The tournament coincides with National Sports Day and the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand.
“Hockey has always held a special place in the hearts of millions across India and Asia. I am confident that this tournament will be full of thrilling matches, displays of extraordinary talent and memorable moments that will inspire future generations of sports lovers,” PM Modi said in a post on handle X.

The Men’s Hockey Asia Cup 2025 is a prestigious continental championship that will feature eight top Asian nations, including India, Japan, China, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Korea, Bangladesh, and Taipei. The tournament serves as a qualifier for the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup, adding extra intensity and significance to every game.
PM Modi also highlighted Bihar’s growing reputation as a vibrant sporting hub, citing the state’s successful hosting of key tournaments like the Khelo India Youth Games 2025, Asia Rugby U20 Sevens Championship 2025, and ISTAF Sepaktakraw World Cup.
