The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lodged an FIR at the Kotwali Police Station in Patna on Thursday against the use of abusive language and alleged insult directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a viral video purported to be of a Mahagathbandhan rally.

The Congress party, however, distanced itself from the incident, describing it as the handiwork of some anti-social elements.

In the FIR, Bihar BJP Media In-Charge Danish Iqbal stated that the video clip, posted on the social media platform ‘X’, purportedly recorded during the Mahagathbandhan’s ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’, shows abusive language being used against the prime minister from the stage.

Alleging that the act was carried out by Mahagathbandhan leaders, Iqbal demanded legal action against the organisers of the event and those responsible for the offensive remarks.

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai also condemned the remarks allegedly made against the prime minister by supporters of the Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). Holding both the parties responsible for the incident, Rai demanded a public apology from them to the people of Bihar and the country. He said the people of Bihar would not tolerate such objectionable comments made against the prime minister.

Congress leaders, however, denied occurrence of any such incident on their official stage.

Reports suggest that the alleged misconduct took place on a nearby stage erected in support of Mohammad Naushad, an aspirant for a Congress ticket from the Jale Assembly constituency.
