Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday expressed his deep sorrow over the recent landslide incident on the route to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Temple in Jammu and Kashmir’s Katra. The tragedy, triggered by heavy rainfall, has claimed at least 32 lives and injured over 20 people.
As per reports, at least 32 people have lost their lives in the landslide, while over 20 people have been injured and evacuated to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Katra.

“The loss of lives due to a landslide on the route to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Temple is saddening. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. May the injured recover at the earliest. The administration is assisting all those affected. My prayers for everyone’s safety and well-being,” PM Modi said in a statement shared on handle X.
Rescue teams, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), have been deployed to assist in the rescue operations. The CRPF’s 6th Battalion has been actively involved in evacuating the injured and providing medical and logistical support to stranded pilgrims.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has assured full support to the administration of the Union Territory, speaking to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. LG Sinha has directed officials to provide immediate assistance to those injured in the accident.
Three relief columns of the Indian Army have been mobilised to assist in rescue and relief operations, while authorities have issued a flood alert in the Jammu region due to heavy rainfall, with rivers flowing above danger levels.
