Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone have found themselves in an unexpected legal spotlight, not for a movie, but for a Hyundai car.

An FIR has been filed against the two actors, along with six top officials of Hyundai, over allegations of fraud linked to a vehicle reportedly riddled with manufacturing defects.

The case, lodged in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, revolves around a Hyundai Alcazar SUV purchased in 2022 by local resident Kirti Singh. Bhaskar English has exclusively reported this case.

According to Singh, the car began showing serious technical problems within a few months of purchase.

“Despite repeated requests, Hyundai did not fix the issues,” Singh told authorities, explaining that his grievance was initially ignored by the police. Feeling left with no choice, he approached the court, which directed the Mathura Gate police station to register the complaint on August 25.

The FIR cites multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code. They include 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and 120B (criminal conspiracy). Other provisions include the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, reflecting the serious nature of the allegations.

Singh’s petition names several top Hyundai executives. That includes Managing Director Anso Kim from Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu, COO Tarun Garg from Gurugram, Haryana. It also names executives from Malwa Auto Sales Pvt. Ltd., Nitin Sharma and Priyanka Sharma, based in Sonipat, Haryana.

Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone have been included as accused due to their roles as brand ambassadors for Hyundai.

According to Singh, the actors’ endorsements contributed to misleading the public. “By promoting this car, they encouraged people to buy a product that was allegedly defective,” he argued in court documents.

Hyundai has not yet issued an official statement regarding the FIR.
