The Crime Branch wing of the Kerala Police on Monday filed a charge sheet against Swapna Suresh, the prime accused in the sensational UAE diplomatic baggage gold smuggling case, and BJP leader P C George for allegedly conspiring to incite violence by raising allegations against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in 2022.

The charge sheet was filed last week before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Thiruvananthapuram. It states that there is a conspiracy between Swapna and George behind the allegations leveled against Vijayan.

According to Crime Branch officials, the charge sheet states that Swapna, through the media, spread canards against the government and the Chief Minister by stating that gold smuggling via UAE consulate’s diplomatic baggage was carried out with connivance of the CM.

The charge sheet further said that she also tried to mislead opposition party workers to carry out organised riot in the state.

The case was registered in 2022 following a complaint by MLA K T Jaleel after Swapna Suresh made allegations about the CM’s involvement in the 2020 gold smuggling incident. Jaleel alleged that P.C. George was part of the conspiracy behind Swapna Suresh’s allegations.

The case was first registered by the Cantonment police in June 2022, which was later taken over by a special team comprising officers from the Crime Branch and local police.
