Congress leader Jairam Ramesh Monday strongly criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah, calling him a “2-in-1 WMD – a Weapon of Malicious Defamation and a Weapon of Mischievous Distortion”.
He made this remark in response to Shah’s comments on Justice B Sudershan Reddy, the joint Opposition candidate for the Vice Presidential election.

Shah had accused Justice Reddy, a former judge of the Supreme Court, of “supporting” Maoism. He had claimed that Left Wing Extremism would have ended by 2020 in the absence of the Salwa Judum judgment.
Taking to platform X, Ramesh said, “The Union Home Minister that our country has the great misfortune of having is a 2-in-1 WMD–a Weapon of Malicious Defamation as well as a Weapon of Mischievous Distortion.”
Twenty eminent legal personalities, including retired Supreme Court judges, retired Chief Justices of High Courts, and retired judges of High Courts, have come forward to criticize Shah’s alleged accusation regarding Justice Reddy. This development has added to the controversy surrounding the Vice Presidential election.
Recently, Ramesh had also given a notice for breach of privilege against Shah for allegedly casting aspersions on the Opposition’s candidate. The tension between the two leaders is evident, with Ramesh not hesitating to speak out against Shah’s comments.
The controversy surrounding former vice president Jagdeep Dhankhar’s resignation has also been a point of contention between Ramesh and Shah. Ramesh has questioned the circumstances surrounding Dhankhar’s resignation, while Shah maintained that it was due to his health reasons.
