‘ECI helping Modi govt steal votes of the poor’: Rahul Gandhi in Bihar’s Araria

Congress MP and the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi on Sunday launched a fresh attack on the Election Commission of India (ECI) over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in poll-bound Bihar, saying the poll panel is helping the Narendra Modi-led NDA government to steal votes of the poor through the SIR exercise.

“The Narendra Modi government…after privatising public sector units…now wants to steal votes of the poor through the SIR with the help of the Election Commission,” Rahul Gandhi said while addressing a joint press conference with the INDIA bloc leaders in Bihar’s Araria during the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’.

“Our full attention is on changing the Election Commission’s this attitude. We will not leave this work. No matter what you do, we will not allow election theft in Bihar,” he stated.

Slamming the Modi government over the issue, the Congress MP said, “The Modi government has closed all paths for the youth and handed over the country’s money to a few capitalists. Now they are stealing your vote, snatching your rights.”

He also highlighted the issue of unemployment and poverty in Bihar and vowed to stop the migration of the state’s people to other states for jobs.

“There is a lot of unemployment and poverty in Bihar. People go from here to other states for jobs because they do not find employment in Bihar. We need to change these very conditions,” he said.

The Congress leader also hailed the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’, saying people of Bihar are actively participating in the journey.

“In Bihar, crores of people believe in the issue of ‘vote theft,’ which is why they are joining us,” he added.

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, who also accompanied Rahul Gandhi during the Yatra, also trained guns at the poll panel, alleging the Election Commission has become “Godi Aayog”.

“Now the Election Commission is working like a cell of the BJP, a worker of the BJP. To save democracy, to save the Constitution, to save the right to vote, and to save the existence of the people, Rahul Gandhi ji and all of us have set out on this yatra. And one thing is clear on this yatra that we have also visited rural areas at the ground level. The credibility of the Election Commission has ended,” said Yadav.
