In a major move, the Central Board of Secondary Education, CBSE, opened up regional, sub-regional offices and a Centre of Excellence in seven cities across the country. The cities chosen for the new officers include Gurugram, Lucknow, Raipur, Ranchi, Agartala, Itanagar, and Gangtok.
In a notification issued here on Friday, Board’s Secretary said, “Consequent upon the approval of the Finance Committee in its meeting held on 12.12.2024 (vide Agenda Item No. II), its ratification by the Governing Body in the meeting held on 26.12.2024, and the subsequent approval of the Controlling Authority of the Board, l.e., Secretary (SE&L), Ministry of Education, the Board has established six new Regional Offices, Centres of Excellence (CoEs), and Sub-Regional Offices.”

Gurugram’s regional office/CoE will have jurisdiction over 12 southern districts of Haryana, including Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Faridabad, Gurugram, Jhajjar, Mahendragarh, Nuh, Palwal, Panipat, Rewari, Rohtak, and Sonipat.
Similarly, Lucknow will cater to 30 districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Amethi, Auraiya, Ayodhya, Bahraich, Balrampur, Banda, Barabanki, Etawah, Farrukhabad, Fatehpur, Firozabad, Gonda, Hamirpur, Hardoi, Jalaun, Jhansi, Kannauj, Kanpur Dehat, Kanpur Nagar, Lakhimpur Kheri, Lalitpur, Lucknow, Mahoba, Mainpuri, Pilibhit, Raebareli, Shahjahanpur, Shrawasti, Sitapur, and Unnao.
While Raipur will look after the entire Chhattisgarh, Ranchi will cater to Jharkhand.
Meanwhile, the new sub-regional offices have also come up under existing jurisdictions, including Agartala (Tripura), Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh), and Gangtok (Sikkim). The Board also released the date from which these offices will start functioning.
The notification further stated that all the schools affiliated with the board will be governed by the respective offices, in accordance with the jurisdictions specified in the table above.
