TMC block president’s visit to BJP office sparks protests, arrest in Durgapur
Hundreds of BJP supporters gathered outside a party office in Durgapur after TMC block president Rajib Ghosh reportedly arrived there late at night.

The event marked the culmination of a year filled with achievements, reflections and celebrations commemorating the institution’s 25 years of excellence in technical education.

The programme was graced by several eminent personalities. Magsaysay awardee, innovator, education reformist and environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk attended as the chief guest, while Air Chief Marshal (Retd.) Arup Raha was the special guest. The audience was also privileged to witness a soulful musical performance by Padma Bhushan Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty, who was a guest of honour.

The concluding ceremony started form the college campus in the morning through different kinds of cultural programmes. Mr Wangchuk delivered his speech with digital presentation on alternative education and environmental concerns. Mr Arup Raha also delivered a brief speech congratulating the college authority for sustaining 25 years with many excellent achievements.
Alongside the distinguished guests, other notable attendees included S Ponnambalam, DM, Dr Sourav Chatterjee, SDM, Durgapur, Swami Somatmananda Maharaj (secretary, Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama Asansol), Prof Anupam Basu, advisor, Dr B C Roy Engineering College, Durgapur.
The welcome address was by Prof (Dr) Sanjay S Pawar, principal of the college. It was followed by Dr Satyajit Bose (president, Dr B C Roy Engineering College), S Ponnambalam, (district magistrate, West Burdwan) and Tarun Bhattacharya, general secretary of Dr B C Roy Engineering College, Durgapur.
Arup Raha appealed to the students citing various aspects of the industrial revolution in Europe and America to think of inventing critical technologies for India.
Sonam Wangchuk envisioned the contributions of Dr B C Roy and how climate change is an important concern and how with innovations like heat transfer, artificial glaciers etc, every individual can contribute to help lessen the global environmental crisis situation.
He also mentioned how natural intelligence is also important in this age of emerging artificial intelligence. The development of the nation is to serve the people in our country by indigenous little inventions.
The event was attended by students from all four colleges under Dr B C Roy Engineering College Society, faculty members, staff, and heads of various institutions, including schools and colleges, making it a memorable and inclusive celebration. The dignitaries unveiled the special souvenir named ‘Reflection 25’ from the dais.
