But the happily-ever-after doesn’t last long. Their relationship begins to crack under the weight of constant interference from relatives and the unending whirl of family politics.

What makes the story stand out is how it balances comedy with moments of real emotional conflict.

The film was first announced in August 2024 under the working title ‘VJS51’, as it marks Vijay Sethupathi’s 51st film as a leading actor. The official title, ‘Thalaivan Thalaivii’, was revealed in May 2025. Shooting took place across Chennai and Tiruchirappalli from August 2024 to February 2025.

The film also features Shruti Haasan and has cinematography by Fowzia Fathima. Interestingly, Mysskin himself is composing the music for this project.

The actor was last seen in ‘Ace’, a romantic crime comedy by Arumuga Kumar. That film also featured Rukmini Vasanth, Yogi Babu, B. S. Avinash, and Babloo Prithiveeraj.
