Delhi Police detain 2 Nigerian women for overstaying; deportation process underway

Delhi Police on Tuesday apprehended two Nigerian women for overstaying their visas, officials said.

According to police, a patrolling team from Nihal Vihar police station noticed the women in the Sunday Bazar area and stopped them for questioning. On verification, it was found that their visas had expired and they were residing in the national capital illegally, in violation of visa norms.

During questioning, the women could not provide any valid reason for their unauthorised stay, following which they were taken to Nihal Vihar police station.

Subsequently, after coordinating with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), legal proceedings for their deportation were initiated. The duo has been lodged at the detention centre in Sewa Sadan, Shahzada Bagh, Sarai Rohilla, pending completion of formalities, police added.

Earlier this month, Delhi Police had arrested five Bangladeshi nationals for allegedly entering the Red Fort premises forcibly. The men, aged between 20 and 25, worked as labourers in Delhi and were found carrying Bangladeshi documents. They were taken into custody for interrogation.

Meanwhile, Gurugram Police detained ten Bangladeshi nationals for illegally staying in the city. Identification documents recovered from them confirmed their Bangladeshi nationality.

Sandeep Kumar, PRO, Gurugram Police, said: “Ten illegal Bangladeshi immigrants have been detained. Bangladeshi documents have been recovered from them. The deportation process has begun.”
