A 39-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping his 65-year-old mother twice in Central Delhi’s Hauz Qazi, police said on Sunday.

The accused, identified as Mohommad Firoz, assaulted and sexually abused the victim multiple times during this month.

“The survivor approached the Hauz Qazi police station along with her daughter (25), alleging that her son had raped her twice,” a senior officer said in his statement.

According to the victim, the assaults happened shortly after the woman returned from a pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia alone, they said.

The victim, in her statement, reportedly stated that she had travelled to Saudi Arabia on July 25 with her husband, 72, and their daughter. During their trip, her son called on his father, accusing the woman of having a ‘bad character’ and asking him to return to Delhi and divorce the victim, the officer mentioned.

When the victim, along with her family, returned to Delhi on August 1, Firoz allegedly assaulted her and attempted to attack her again the next day.

Subsequently, the complainant reportedly told the police that she had gone to stay with her elder daughter’s in-laws at their residence, citing safety concerns.

“On Monday, when she returned home at around 9:30 pm, her son insisted on speaking to her privately and locked her in a room, threatening her with a knife and scissors before allegedly raping her,” the officer said.

Initially, she did not disclose the matter to anyone for fear of shame but began to sleep in the same room as her daughter, they said. Following another assault at 3:30 in the morning of Thursday, the woman reported the matter to the police.

On the basis of the statement of the victim, a case has been registered under the relevant sections of the BNS, and an investigation into this case was taken up by the officer.

Firoz is an unemployed graduate, while the survivor is an illiterate housewife and her husband is a retired government employee.
