Following the cancellation of the nomination of two Congress MLCs under the governor’s quota after a Supreme Court directive, the BRS claimed that it has dealt a blow to both the Congress and the BJP.

The BRS slammed the “Delhi parties” for flouting the Constitution, particularly the BJP, for misusing the position of the governors for political gains.

BRS working president KT Rama Rao said, “In the past, when the BJP misused the governor’s position to obstruct the proposals of two MLCs sent by the BRS, the Congress, which came to power later, recommended two other names while the process was still pending, thereby mocking democracy. The true nature of Congress and BJP has once again been exposed as they obstructed the candidature of Dasoju Shravan and Satyanarayana, who belong to marginalised and weaker sections and were nominated by the BRS.”

A petition was filed in the Supreme Court by BRS leaders Dasoju Shravan and Kurra Satyanarayana, whose nominations were not accepted by the then governor of Telangana, Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan, precipitating the crisis.

BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha advised the Congress government to move court to implement 42 per cent reservation for BCs since the Bills were pending with the Centre. “The Supreme Court’s verdict today, cancelling their Legislative Council memberships, is a slap in the face for the BJP. From now on, the BJP should respect the Constitution and approve the Bills pending with the Governor and the President that provide 42 percent reservations for BCs,” she said.
