The rain spell in Delhi is expected to continue over the next few days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast on Tuesday. After a two-day dry spell, parts of the capital received overnight showers between 2.30 am and 5.30 am.

According to data from the Met Department recorded until 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Safdarjung — the capital’s base weather station — received 18.7 mm of rainfall, categorized as ‘moderate.’ Other stations at Mayur Vihar, Pusa, Ridge, Lodhi Road, Rajghat, and Palam recorded 53.5 mm, 55 mm, 32.6 mm, 19.8 mm, 17.8 mm, and 16.7 mm, respectively — all falling under the ‘moderate’ rainfall category in 24-hour average until 8:30 am, the IMD said.

Tuesday morning’s deluge brought down the city’s minimum temperature by 3.0°C, which settled at 23.4°C — departing nearly 3.6°C from normal. There was no significant change in the maximum temperature at the city’s base station over the past 24 hours, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) recording a high of 33.7°C.

According to the IMD data, in the past 24 hours, over Delhi southwesterly winds prevailed with wind speed gusting up to 17 kmph.

The weather department has forecast light to moderate rain across the capital this week, accompanied by thunderstorms, with a high probability of showers on Wednesday evening and night.
