The principal opposition party, the Samajwadi Party (SP), will boycott the 24-hour marathon sitting of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly scheduled for August 13 during the current monsoon session.
The Yogi Adityanath government has proposed a special sitting to discuss the “Vision of Vikshit UP by 2047,” where each government department will present its plans and strategies.

SP president Akhilesh Yadav, speaking to the media here last night, questioned the purpose of the exercise. “What is the use of such a sitting? When the government departments are indulging in corruption and illegal activities, then what is the need for such a session? It is just a waste of time and public money,” he claimed.

Yadav announced that SP legislators would not attend the session, alleging that the BJP government was engaged in “all types of mischief” to target the opposition, including corrupt practices in the electoral rolls. “This effort is just an eyewash,” he said.
Earlier, on the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the SP had also boycotted a 48-hour special session of the Assembly.
