The Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee on Saturday marked August Kranti Diwas and World Tribal Day with a programme at the party headquarters here, presided over by state Congress president Keshav Mahato Kamlesh.

The event highlighted the role of August Kranti Diwas in India’s freedom struggle, with floral tributes offered to eminent leaders of the movement. Kamlesh recalled that the “Do or Die” call given by Mahatma Gandhi on August 9, 1942, infused new energy into the freedom struggle and gave it a decisive direction.

He noted that the United Nations declared the day in 1994 to recognise and safeguard the distinct identity of indigenous communities.
