The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) has approved a Rs 45.31-crore road construction project in Assam to improve connectivity between Mangaldoi and Mazikuchi.
The 15-kilometre stretch will be developed from KM 11.000 to KM 26.200 under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS) – Roads.

The new road will serve as a direct link between Mangaldoi, the district headquarters of Darrang, and Bhergaon, the sub-divisional headquarters of Udalguri. It is expected to reduce the distance between the two places by around 7.2 kilometres, making travel faster and easier for residents.

The project will also improve access to seven educational institutions, including Deomornoi College.
In addition, it is expected to boost tourism in the region by enhancing connectivity to key sites such as Pathurighat Krishak Shahid Memorial, Khotora Satra, Lakhimpur Pukhuri, and Ramgaon Pukhuri.
The road project will be fully funded by the Central government and monitored by MDoNER in coordination with the Assam government. The aim is to support infrastructure growth in remote and underserved areas of the Northeast.
The approval for the project was given on August 6 as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen road networks and support economic development in the region.
