So who is finally the new Madhubala in the biopic? Casting twist you didn’t see coming
Rumours are flying fast about the Madhubala biopic, with multiple actresses being “finalised” almost every day. But the casting director has now made it clear.
Actor KJ Apa, best known for his role as Archie Andrews in the TV show ‘Riverdale’, is stepping into the shoes of one of Hollywood’s greatest legends, James Stewart.
The young star will play Stewart in an upcoming biopic titled ‘Jimmy’, which will explore the life and legacy of the Oscar-winning actor.

The film will cover major chapters of Stewart’s life, including his early years in Hollywood, his rise to fame, and his time serving as a pilot in World War II. Stewart was not only a celebrated actor but also a war hero. He won an Academy Award for ‘The Philadelphia Story’ and became even more loved after starring in ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’, a film that remains a holiday classic to this day.

KJ Apa shared his excitement about taking on the James Stewart role. “I’ve always admired him. He represented a time when values like integrity, duty, and patriotism were strong. As someone from New Zealand, it means a lot to me to honour a man like that, especially in a country that’s given me so much,” he said in an interview with ‘Variety’.

The movie will be a directorial of Aaron Burns and written by Justin Strawhand. In a touching personal connection, Stewart’s own daughter, Kelly Stewart-Harcourt, is joining the project as the executive producer. She will help ensure the story stays true to who her father really was, both as an actor and as a person.
Director Aaron Burns also spoke about what makes Stewart so special. “People loved Jimmy Stewart not just because he was a great actor, but because he felt like someone you knew. He was relatable, honest, and down-to-earth. But what many don’t know is how heroic his life was off-screen. He served his country during the war and never bragged about it. That kind of humility is rare,” he said.
The biopic has already pulled together a strong cast. Alongside Apa, the film will feature Jason Alexander (‘Seinfeld’), Max Casella, Sarah Drew (‘Grey’s Anatomy’), Julian Works, and Jen Lilley.
