Following a brief exchange of fire, a member of the Tillu Tajpuriya gang has been arrested by the police in Delhi’s Sarojini Nagar, an official said on Wednesday.
The accused, Manjeet, originally from Haryana, was wanted in a murder case booked against him in Alipur in north Delhi, police mentioned.

Aditya Gautam, Deputy Commissioner of Police, in his statement said, “Manjeet sustained a gunshot wound in his leg during the shootout and is currently undergoing treatment.”
On Tuesday, the police got their hands on the accused for the murder of Karan Thapa, a known associate of the rival Gogi gang, who was gunned down by unidentified assailants riding motorcycles in Alipur’s Nehru Enclave area on March 28.
Thapa was immediately rushed to Harishchandra Hospital, where he succumbed to the injuries sustained, DCP Gautam said.
During preliminary investigation into this case, it came out that there was a deep-rooted and violent rivalry between the Tajpuriyas and Gogi, which was suspected as the motive behind the alleged murder.
The DCP stated that it was revealed that three persons were involved in the case; they were identified as Manjeet, Neeraj of Nangloi, and Himanshu of Behror in Rajasthan.
Himanshu, who had conducted a reconnaissance of the area before the attack, was arrested earlier, while the other two remained at large.
Manjeet’s movements were tracked based on the input provided, and a trap was laid in Sarojini Nagar.
“When the police intercepted Manjeet, he tried to flee the spot by opening fire at the police team, firing three rounds. In retaliation, the officer fired back at him, injuring the accused in the leg and leading to his arrest,” DCP Gautam said.
With this, a fresh case was filed under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act at the Crime Branch Police Station.
During sustained interrogation, Manjeet revealed that he was working on the directions of gangster Deepak Pakasma, who assumed command of the Tillu Tajpuriya gang after Tajpuriya was murdered in Tihar Jail in 2023.
It has been suspected that Pakasma is operating from abroad and coordinating gang activities from there. Manjeet, along with his associates, Neeraj and Himanshu, allegedly shot multiple rounds at Thapa, leading to his death, he added.
Manjeet, who is a native of Rohtak’s Humayunpur village, studied up to Class 12 at a government school and had enrolled in ITI Kharkhoda but dropped out. He later joined the gang and became an active member, participating in several crimes.
