Deeply upset over her objectionable video uploaded on a social media platform by her fiancé, a 19-year-old female college student ended her life by setting herself ablaze at her house in Kathiapada village under the Pattamundai rural police station jurisdiction of the Kendrapara district.
The victim, a plus three student of Mohanpur College, resorted to self immolation during noon hours on Wednesday when her parents had gone to a nearby market place to buy ration. On returning home, they were shocked to find the charred body of their daughter, police said.

Police, quoting family members, said a youth had developed a relationship with her. Later, he mentally harassed her and made her intimate moments on social media platforms. Upset over the sequence of harassment, she ended her life.

The victim’s father, Sashikant Parida, alleged, “I had drawn the attention of local police to the matter. However, they turned a blind eye to the complaint.”
A police official, refusing to divulge details of the case, said “Investigation is underway. Police are looking into all possible angles including abetting to suicide”.
