Praveen Shankar Kapoor, General Secretary of the Chandni Chowk Nagrik Manch and spokesperson of the Delhi BJP, on Monday accused the Public Works Department (PWD), Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), and the local police of negligence in the Chandni Chowk area, leading to its severe deterioration. He called for urgent and strict corrective measures.

Demanding decisive action, Kapoor urged Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh to address the growing encroachments not only in Chandni Chowk market but also on adjoining roads, including Diwan Hall Road, Cycle Market Road, HC Sen Marg, Shanti Desai Marg, Nai Sarak, and Fatehpuri Church Mission Road.

The Delhi BJP spokesperson appreciated the efforts of MP Praveen Khandelwal in improving cleanliness and reducing encroachments in the area.

He also expressed confidence in the residents and shopkeepers of the locality, describing them as ‘nationalists’ and affirming that they would not participate in any protest, sit-in, or symbolic Gandhigiri demonstrations during Independence Day Week, from August 9 to 15.

Meanwhile, Kapoor urged the government to take immediate steps to address the concerns of residents in the walled city.

He further announced that on August 11, with support from local businesses and citizen groups, MP Praveen Khandelwal will organize a Tiranga Yatra (Tricolor March) from Red Fort to Fatehpuri Chowk to uphold the spirit of nationalism.
